WHY ARE OMEGA-3'S SO IMPORTANT?

You've been hearing about the health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. More and more people are turning to inflammation fighting Omega-3 fatty acids for fighting all types of chronic diseases, like heart disease, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, and some types of cancer. Additional strong values of Omega 3 are the suppression of Type II diabetes, heart disease and the lowering of cholesterol according to Kansas State University research. Inflammations that are caused by having too little Omega-3s in the diet can lead to illness, and while Omega-3s are abundant in foods like some fishes and walnuts, many people don't get enough of them in their daily diets. Flax seed contains alpha linolenic acid or ALA which is an Omega-3 that is a precursor to the same fatty acids found in cold water fish and salmon, also known as DHA and EPA.

In a research study from Kansas State University, scientists fed cattle a diet which included ground flax seed in an attempt to increase the Omega 3 Fatty acid content in the meat itself. This study proved successful in increasing the eomega-3 levels. By adding flax seed to their diet, the cattle experienced an increase in their Omega-3 fatty acid content!
